Marc-Andre Bergeron for President! - Ryan as the running mate?
Posted by Gary Harding under Islanders 06-07
You think he would denounce his Canadian citizenship for this?
I was proably one of the extreme few that thought Marc-Andre Bergeron would do great in an Islander uniform.
In fact - I thnk I was one of the few that actually knew who he was.
Now - I want to be his campaign manager. Screw Roger Farina with his Howie for President… (LOL - Roger - this is satire) I want to see Marc-Andre (now know as MAB), as our next candidate for President!
Not only as he come in and provided a needed spark - he has averaged over a point per game in his first 10 contests as an Islander, and scoring almost as many goals as the entire defense has scored all season.
The only thing that is bad, is the bill for all the glass that he has broken since his arrival on Long Island.
Now - for every President - we need to get a running mate. For Marc-Andre - you have to look at an opposite. He is a defenseman - we need a forward. Similar party lines? Well - they spent a few years in the same city together - so they know a little about each other.
The perfect running mate - Ryan Smyth!
Ryan is so low-key that he would be a great complement to MAB. Although MAB is quiet too, but wasn’t it Mr. Roosevelt part 1 who said, “Speak softly, and carry a big stick!”? Actually, both of our guys do - and their target is the net.
But for tonight’s game - I really would like to see Ricky take the game off and relax. We need him at 100% for the last 10 games or so - so tonight should be a blow. You have Dubie as the backup for Dunny, and let Mike get some adrenaline up, and maybe we can ’steal’ one. The offense needs to step up big time, make some contributions and help the cause. This would be the first real test for my Presidential candidates. They need to make the positions known, take their shots, and get to the forefront of this team. Are you willing to step it up boys?
This will be it for a day or two. I am off to Florida tomorrow for a much needed vacation and time to relax. My wife and I will be at our Time Share (will share some photos this week), and will report on the Tampa game on Thursday, as we will be there. I will also do a baseball report, as I will be seeing the Mets and Braves from Disney’s Wide World of Sports stadium. Should be a fun week.
See ya,
Gary
PS - check out the NYHR website soon - there should be an article about my thoughts about the Simon incident. If it doesn’t make it there, I will post it here. Also check out the “BEAKER”!!! If you have been to the game, and see the young man with the life size BEAKER from Muppets fame sitting in 329 - go check out his blog (the link is on the main page to the right). You will be glad you did….
See ya. G

How can these players be considered President and Running Mate when the team has done nothing but take a downward spiral out of playoff contention since they arrived? These players are good, and I had high expectations for the team since they arrived, but results have not been included in them winning games. Did the whole team just stop playing because Smyth arrived? If I knew this was going to happen, Smyth should have stayed in Edmonton. The Islanders were doing just fine before this huge trade took place and the only team they’ve beaten since is Washington. Believe it or not, they still control their own destiny. Win and you’re in! The other players need to return to what they were doing pre-Smyth/Bergeron in order to win. And what about Zednik? This bum has done NOTHING? Bring up Tamberlini - he has heart with results!

Andrew,
When I wrote this, they were at their best since they were here. They may have slipped, but I am still on the bandwagon
