Once again, it seems that the Isles, when needed to pounce on the Rangers, did not come up to the test.
I think Yash played his best game in a long while. He was moving without the puck, he was hitting players, and creating open chances. He dug in to get that goal past Lundqvist, to even up the game.
Too many people will say that Smyth did not have a good game. He is a goal scorer, but too many people just decide that when a player does not score that he had a bad game. Watch a little more of the game, please…
There were too many incidents where the Rangers were simply roughing and getting in many cheap shots at the Isles, which went unnoticed. I try not to side on the fact that officiating took the game away from the Isles, but in this case, I will say it..
THE
DAMN
REFS
COST US
THIS
GAME!!!
Too much crap went uncalled and simply ignored by the “schmucks in stripes!” Sean Avery can be a good player, but he is as dirty as they come, and someone needs to take him down. Enough said. In too many Islander fans minds, it is simply the fact that an original six team getting the benefit of the doubt. That will piss off Ranger fans, but I don’t care. Convenient review calls, but we all know where that puck was, dont we Queen Henrik??? Squeezing the stick of the defender to get a holding the stick call in OT. If that was reversed, I would bet you big money that the call would NOT be made.
I am just disgusted, and I know Islander fans all over are too. Yuck! Onto tomorrow and NJ.
THREE STARS
- Alexei Yashin - got the goal to tie up the game - good hard working job
- Rick DiPietro - did a nice job in net
- Trent Hunter - Nystrom Award winner - and bang up job in front of the net
GOLD STAR - Trent Hunter - the winner of the Nystrom Award. A class guy who was quite humbled when he was told of his award win. I like him more and more with every game.

I’m sure a number of the bad calls we’ve seen recently are a direct response to Witt’s calling-out of Campbell in the press.
They want to show us “who’s boss”.

Yashin played well and so did the Islanders. Bottom line, they had 10 power plays and couldn’t get more than one by Lundqvist.
And you are dead wrong about that review Gary. The puck never crossed the line.
You Isles fans need to stop blaming the refs. You think you got hosed over? Wait till you face the Devils on Tuesday.

I’ve been out of the loop for a week on business and was on a flight home from Los Angeles during today’s game. However, I heard from several sources that the officiating, once again, proved its sub-standard consistencies. It really drives me insane when the referees cause a game’s results directly or indirectly. I did not hear any part of it, so I cannot comment with any first hand knowledge.
All I know is we are still in the unt, and we need to grab points. At the very least, 1 point was better than none.

Derek - I talk to some people (not fans - but others in a position of knowing - and said that we were hosed up and down the ice. Yes we got 10 PP’s - but the way the Rangers were brutally attacking the Isles at every turn - we should have had 18 PP’s at least. Since the acquisition of Avery - they have become almost the Charlestown Cheifs. Just get some walleye glasses and we can have the Hanson team.
Sorry if you dont like it Derek - but that is why we have blogs - to say our opinions. The Rangers can dish it out - but whine and moan when they get it back.
And I am sorry - but we all know that orig 6 teams almost ALWAYS get the benefit.
And you are right - the BO-RING “I put my hands up because I did not do anything” Devils are in town tomorrow. Snore, Snore, Snore.
Sorry Derek - I am in a rotten mood today, and you get the brunt of it - and better like it!
LOL!
