From information that I received from Joe McDonald, my NYR co-host on the New York Hockey Report, he has heard from a number of sources stating that if a certain Islander remains an Islander, than a certain hero to Canadian Hockey Fans will not be in Islander blue and orange for the 07-08 season.
Makes you go, hmmmmmm???
All I know for this person’s 2 cents worth - is accept the mistake Charles, and unload #79 to the curb. Seeing Carol Alt at games is now overrated.
We need to revolve our team around #94, and get players that would benefit from the TN system.
Cmon Charles, do it now!

I had a lengthy discussion with one of my brothers about Yashin. On the one hand, the “point” can be argued that IF he had not gotten injured, he might have ended up with a “noticeable” point total over 82 games. I think he had about 50 points in 62 games with some of those games played “injured”. On the other hand, his playoff effort lacked a Lot to be desired for a guy with the biggest pay check on the team. I never understood the idea of making him Captain beyond the hope that it would “motivate” him to “lead”, and I think we can safely say that he has not lived up to that role as previous Captains here have done.
I like the guy. I’ve pulled for him since we got him. I’ve always wanted to see him do well and be the “big time” player we expected him to be. At this point, unfortunately, he isn’t worth the money. He isn’t being the impact player we need him to be. How many chances can he be given? Perhaps, we buy him out and use the money to keep Smyth and Blake here, as well as get us some more depth.

I agree with everything John said above. I have pulled for Yashin since he got here, I would love nothing more then for him to be the dominent player that Jagr has been to the Rangers. We are simply not getting that from him and he is not worth 7.2 million a year let alone the captain of the team.
Now on the other hand there has been a rumor flying around that the Islanders and Smyth are talking about a 7yr $35 million dollar deal. Now the length is a bit long in my opinion but this is why it must get done.
-Must like when the Mets overpaid for Pedro it showed they wanted to win. After that signing the Mets have been able to add players like Beltran, Delgado, LoDuca, Wagner, etc. All players who play hard and play to win. I think that keeping Smyth and unloading Yashin will show quality FA’s that this is ready to win.
-It shows the fan base that the years of sucking and being mediocre are over. The fan base is in dire need of positve news.
-I am sure there are more but I am tired….
