Well - hockey games are underway…
North Bay Ontario won a competition called HOCKEYVILLE, which gave them a chance to host a NHL preseason game, in which the Islanders and Thrashers were the participants.
The game was televised on Islanders TV, but unfortunately for me, my computer crashed, and I did not get to see. However, reports from the game, said that the Isles played well.
All 3 goals were scored by the D, two by Matthew Spiller (a big boy!). Most of the ‘vets’ were not in the lineup, with the main line being manned by Tambellini, Vasicek and Sim. Andy McDonald was in the nets, and did ok. Garret Exelby scored 74 seconds into the extra session, giving the ‘visiting’ Thrashers the victory.
The Isles tonight, will take on Boston at the “Mile 1″ Arena is St. John’s Newfoundland. A lot of the ’vets’ will make the Islander debuts tonight.
Now - that uniform does look a lot better, once you see it on a full kit setup. It does make the player look a little more svelte. Me, I will stick with the old style. My frame can not support a snug jersey. I still like the look of it. Hey - at least it is not as boring and DULL as the new Dallas Stars jersey. Check this out….
This is real bad… I guess they really spent a great deal of time and resources coming up with this one…..
Talk tomorrow..

Great Post Gary,
The one place I have to really disagree with you is on the new jersey’s. After seeing the Isles new duds I cannot help but feel disgusted. They are hidious!!!! If they could remove that orange stripe at the top of the sleeve it would be a different story. Man they are ugly!

Hey - you may think it is bad, but there are a lot worse……
At least they kept the colors, kept the logo, kept the basics…..
We are NOT the embarassment this time.

For those who can get CBC, they’ll have a one-hour show on Friday night at 9:00 local time called “Hockeyville.” I’m guessing it will focus mainly on the off-ice ceremonies in North Bay yesterday, but it should have footage of Islander alumni meeting with the locals (Bourne, Morrow, Trottier, Nystrom, etc.)
This is the 2nd version of “Hockeyville” - a year ago, Salmon River, NS won the right to “host” a game (it was played in nearby Truro, as SR was too small) between the Habs and Senators. That contest was a weekly CBC series with NHL players acting as judges (Mike Bossy was one of them) on each town’s presentation. The contest that North Bay won was held very much under the radar, not sure why.
Anyway, Friday at 9 on the CBC network and likely on http://www.cbc.ca, which streamed last night’s game.

Gary, one correction. The goalie was Joey MacDonald. Andy MacDonald is a defenseman.
Great post though, and true about the Dallas sweaters; I think someone only had 15 minutes to plan those hehe

Stand corrected. Can not get those McDonald’s in order. At least I do not get Jiggs mixed up in that…. LOL

1) Can’t agree that the NVMC is any real factor in why FA’s are avoiding coming to the Island.
2) If you’ve ever been to Pittsburgh, their arena makes the NVMC look like the Taj Mahal. Its an absolute dump that no minor league team would use.
3) Its all about winning and franchise stability. Perception is reality in many regards, and the perception of the rest of the NHL is that the islander organization is being run by a nut case.
4) Deserved or not, players may be avoiding coming there for MANY other reasons other than the arena. Using that as an excuse is merely a crutch/crock.

Thanks for the opinions faux!
I dont think the arena is reason 1, it may be reason 26 or 28; but if it is there, than it HAS to be a factor.
I have been to Pittsburgh. But they have a plan and are moving forward light years ahead of us. The damn Nassau Countyt legislators are just being stupid and run this around in circles until we just give up. However, Charles WILL win in the end….

The Islanders sweaters fit in nicely with the season, Halloween. They look more like costumes than sports wear. The Stars, on the other hand, are lean, clean and simple. The only thing I would have changed is there should be a star on the front.

Right StarsRule… Halloween. I can admit the Orange ones were a little that way, but tell me…. Do they have the color Blue in Halloween in Texas? Make you wonder about the souther part of the country… A little off color, don’t you think? Oh well…

I have noticed several items in major department stores that have blue backgrounds to simulate twilight on Halloween or it could even be a full moon and make the night have a bluish cast. So, yes, HALLOWEEN. In fact I just saw a commercial today for fashions and one of the items was a lady’s sweater done in blue with ghosts on it. Again, yes, HALLOWEEN! And, don’t worry about the “souther part of the country.” We are doing just fine, thank you very much……..except for the heat and an idiot for a GM.
