A perspective about the Islanders, Hockey and other ramblings from Gary Harding, a former Islanders Booster Club President and season ticket holder since 1989. The Blog Name, basically tells you where I sit. From Row B, Seat 1 in Section 317, I watch the boys that wear my home on their sweaters play hockey over 40 times (hopefully more) every season. As of October 2008, Gary is a member of the NYI Blog Box, a collection of Islander Bloggers, who will be working at the Coliseum this season, talking about their favorite team.

Dear Gary:

First, sorry to hear about your mother.

Jacob, Tara and I are in Phoenix. We took in the Coyotes-Flames game on the 14th. Saw old NYI'ers Adrian Aucoin, Todd Bertuzzi and Robyn Regier (all 3 on Calgary). This was the middle of a three game set against the western Canadian teams. Apparently Phoenix is Canada south during the winter. There were so many more Flames fans than Coyotes fans, it seemed like a NYR-NYI game at the LIVMC. As it was Valentine's Day, the Coyotes ran a promotion similar to that run occassionally by the NYI-get an autographed puck for $20. With the first 2 picks, Jacob got Daniel Carcillo (Phoenix's goon) and Shane Doan. The Phoenix promotion goes one step further: if you get a puck autographed in gold ink, you get a stick autographed by the full time (minus Gretzsky). Jacob won a stick. I now have to ship a hockey stick home from Phoenix. This city is so uninterested in hockey - no wonder it may lose the franchise.

Anyway, there was a major fight in the stands near our seats. Drunk Canadians taking after what was occurring on the ice. Phoenix lost 7-5. (The score was closer than the game really was.)

One of the best things about going to the game - free parking.

Only the second time I had to go through a metal detector to see a hockey game. (The first time was soon after 9/11, in DC.)

The booster club does 50-50 raffles and memorabilia raffles, but you have to be a booster club member to be able to purchase tickets for the memorabilia raffles.<div class="comment-remix-meta"><a href="#" class="replyto" onclick="replyto('39524','Martin Valk'); return false;">Reply</a> - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('39524','Martin Valk','Dear Gary:\r\n\r\nFirst, sorry to hear about your mother.\r\n\r\nJacob, Tara and I are in Phoenix.
