It was one for the aged. Tampa Bay Lightning netminder Dwayne Roloson, the NHL’s greybeard at 42, mano-a-mano with the Edmonton Oilers’ Nikolai Khabibulin, all of 39, on Thursday night. Not the oldest netminding battle this season — Roli the Goalie played New Jersey Devils’ Martin Brodeur, who turns 40 in May — but still an intriguing match of wits and goalie splits.

Edmonton Oilers defenceman Andy Sutton has agreed to a new one-year contract for reportedly between $1.5 million and $1.75 million US a season that takes the unrestricted free agent out of the picture on NHL trade deadline day. Sutton, who came to the Oilers last July 1 from the Anaheim Ducks in a trade for Kurtis Foster, would have been a solid depth pickup on Feb. 27 for a Stanley Cup contender.
