The New York Islanders future is on parade at Hockey Canada’s Nation Junior Development Camp. The team that finished in last place in the ridiculously loaded Atlantic Division has five prospects at this camp.

 

Basically if New York fans want to get a peak at the future that Islander tickets have to hold, then they should just look at what goes on in Ottawa. Joshua Bailey, Corey Trivino, Travis Hamonic, Mark Katic, and Jared Spurgeon are all putting on a show that could one day go from the Junior Hockey scene to selling NHL tickets, going to the playoffs, and winning the Stanley Cup.

                 

Bailey was the ninth pick taken in the draft, Trivino and Hamonic were second round pick, Katic was taken in the third round in the 2007 draft, and Spurgeon was taken in the sixth round of this year’s draft.

 

The five players are the beginning of the rebuilding effort by GM Garth Snow and are an encouraging sign for life long Islander fans.

 

No other team from the NHL has more than three players at the exclusive camp. Not the intra-city rival New York Rangers, not the young Pittsburgh Penguins, not the Stanley Cup champions Detroit Red Wings.

 

This might come across as a bit early, but someday Islander fans could be looking back to the summer of 2008 as the beginning of return to glory.
